The Major Lines of the Palm: A Beginner’s Guide to Hasta Rekha
A beginner's guide to the four major palm lines in Hasta Rekha: the life, head, heart and fate lines, and what the tradition says each one represents.
हस्त रेखा (Hasta Rekha)
Four lines to start with
Most palm readers begin with four major lines. In the tradition, each one is read as a symbol, not a fixed outcome.
- Life line: curves around the base of the thumb; traditionally linked with vitality and major life changes, not length of life.
- Head line: runs across the palm; linked with thinking style and how a person approaches problems.
- Heart line: sits above the head line; linked with emotional life and how a person relates to others.
- Fate line: runs up the centre of the palm and is not present in every hand; linked with career path and sense of direction.
How to read them
Compare both hands, note the depth and clarity of each line, and remember that lines can change over time. Read the whole hand together, never a single line alone.
